I imagine it wouldn’t require too much more than what I have written about (might need to tweak the network configuration more in Proxmox depending on the number of interfaces, etc). Like you mentioned, it is a disruption to switch routers which is another reason I haven’t tried using the VM as my primary router so I could write about the experience. Also it is something I don’t have experience with yet (moving it from the VMs to physical hardware). I thought about that scenario when I was writing the how-to, but I was trying to keep it focused on one specific scenario so it’s not as confusing. Perhaps it would be possible to export the configuration and manually edit the configuration file to make the interfaces match the physical hardware. I’m not sure the best way to match up the virtual interfaces with the physical ones. The most difficult part might be the network interfaces.
